The West African Bankers' Association (WABA) is an Association of all the banks within the ECOWAS Sub-region. It was inaugurated on 10 th August, 1981 in Accra, Ghana based on the recommendation of the Governors of the Central Banks within the sub-region and approved by the council of Heads of States. It was created because of the crucial roles banks were bound to play in the successful execution of intra-regional trade and payments. WABA is an association of all the commercial and specialised banks and other credit institutions in the sub-region and it is one of the organs of ECOWAS Commission.
